Everybody agrees that Music licensing will constitute a key pillar of the music industry in the coming decade. The current system is, however, outdated, highly complicated and inflexible. This is sickening the entire industry as becomes clear not only from the heated discussion on copyrights in recent years. Rightclearing has quietly developed an infrastructure that shows how music licensing will work in future. The highly complex system is simplified and labels, musicians and publishers as well as clients from the film, advertising and film industry or private users profit from it. The experts of hy!berlin, Midem and DCM Europe seem in agreement that this is the future and rightclearing will have a significant impact on the market for music licensing in the coming decade.
The founder of rightclearing, Philippe Perreaux, recognized copyright expert and head of Creative Commons Switzerland will appear at all three events and be available for interviews.

restorm.com launches the modern licensing platform rightclearing

In recent years, the music industry has increasingly chosen to promote restrictive laws such as SOPA as a way to combat falling sales. The Swiss company restorm.com challenges this approach and wants to prove with rightclearing that a modern and open system for all is the better solution for this problem..More
Every year over 2.5 billion dollars are spent on music for advertising, movies and TV series, but hardly any small labels profit from this source of revenue. If somebody wants to use a song for a project, the song has to be licensed first. Most people have no idea what this actually means. This is why independent artists can’t access this large market and many YouTube users unknowingly make themselves liable to prosecution by using their favorite songs for their videos. rightclearing, a modern licensing platform launched today, wants to solve these problems by profoundly simplifying the licensing process and opening up the market to all actors.
Philippe Perreaux, CEO of rightclearing and leading expert on copyright law, is convinced that such an open system is more promising for all involved than the restrictive approach of SOPA.
“SOPA is the opposite of what is needed. Laws like that inhibit all efforts to create a copyright landscape that supports cultural development. rightclearing enables anyone who wants to use music for their projects legally, to purchase the usage rights in mere minutes. In the long run, this will enrich the cultural exchange and also support the financial interests of the music industry.”
The Internet-visionary Joi Ito, who has invested in such companies as Flickr, Last.fm and Twitter at a very early stage, joined the advisory board of the Swiss company and shares this opinion:
“rightclearing shows the music industry and independent artists the large potential of the Internet. I think the future of music licensing lies in the open, transparent and fair approach of rightclearing.” The platform will launch with a catalogue of 13,000 songs available for licensing worldwide. Further agreements have already been signed with such partners as Rumblefish, so the catalog will grow over the following weeks to more than 100,000 tracks. rightclearing combines innovative thinking with cutting-edge technology and has the potential to shape how music licensing will work in the future. Maybe in time the large industry lobbies will come to realize that modern approaches offer greater potential than restrictive laws such as SOPA.

rightclearing and Rumblefish join forces

The two licensing platforms signed a cooperation agreement aiming to modernize and simplify the market for synchronization music licensing.More
With over 750,000 songs, Rumblefish Music is the world's largest catalog for social media licenses and has sold over 5.3 million licenses for use in online videos. rightclearing simplifies the music licensing process with a modern search technology developed by the Fraunhofer Institute. Automated contracts and payment allow anyone to purchase licenses for their projects, whether for commercial or personal, non-commercial use. rightclearing opens up and democratizes the business of music licensing, making it easily accessible to independent artists. The partnership gives rightclearing access to the hand-curated Rumblefish catalog, from which songs will be imported so that licenses for them can be sold. By providing catalog access to rightclearing, Rumblefish gains an additional stream of revenue, increasing distribution for all its artists, labels, and publishers. Both parties see great opportunities in this cooperation with hundreds of millions of people uploading personal videos along with the steady growth of the commercial music licensing market.
Philippe Perreaux, CEO of restorm AG:
"We are very happy about our partnership with Rumblefish, the leading platform for music licensing in social media. We look forward to simplifying and democratizing the market for music licensing together.
Paul Anthony, CEO & founder of Rumblefish:
"Both the team and technology of rightclearing are top notch. We are providing them with the Rumblefish catalog as inventory, so they can focus on product development, marketing and sales in order to drive revenue for all parties involved. It's a mutually beneficial arrangement."
